NEC Retail is a retail electric provider serving Texas deregulated electricity markets.  Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, NEC is a division of Nueces Electric Cooperative.  This places NEC in the unique position of being the only non-profit retail electric provider in Texas.

NEC Retail customers become members and actually own the company.  Owner-members elect the board of directors and, therefore, have representation in the management and oversight of NEC .  As a non-profit electricity retail company, NEC periodically returns profits to its members through bill credits or check.  Members qualify for capital credits after receiving service from NEC for a whole calendar year.

NEC Retail offers variable rate electricity plans for both residential and commercial members.  NEC does not offer any fixed price plans or plans that have set contract terms.  Their “no contract” approach to providing electric service allows members to stay flexible and switch providers at any time without penalty.  Members, however, benefit from staying with NEC by qualifying for capital credits (profit distributions).  This is a unique approach and keeps members on a cost-of-service basis with NEC .  Should NEC collect more than it needs to cover the cost of energy and its operations, members receive a pro-rata share of the amount over-collected.  Regardless of whether the variable rate is high or low, NEC members can take comfort in knowing that any profits will be returned.

NEC Retail offers its members a portal where they can review statements and make bill payments.  NEC also accepts bill payments by automatic bank draft, credit card, and at Fidelity Express pay stations.  In keeping with its electric cooperative roots, members can also make payments in person at the NEC office in Robstown, Texas.  A member service center is available by phone Monday thru Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

NEC Retail supports over 50 community organizations and events per year.  They offer referral credits and special incentives for retired and active military personnel.  NEC also sponsors college scholarships and a program that sends high school students to Washington, D.C.
