Along with the natural beauty of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush, Texans will see their energy bills drop as they enjoy that brief break between heating and air conditioning. Our focus is helping consumers find the best electricity rate.  However, we also try to pass along tips for being energy smart.  You work too hard to see your electricity dollar fly out the window.

We prepared an infographic to give you some ideas on how to reduce your energy usage.

Home Maintenance

There are three basic types of energy conservation tips. The first involves upgrading or maintain something you already own.  These are often the cheapest and easiest ones to implement.  These measures include replacing caulking around windows or doors, replacing HVAC filters, and dusting your ceiling fans.  While they sound mundane, these are all highly effective means of lowering your energy bill.  To be a pro at air-sealing your home, check your local hardware or home improvement store for a smoke pencil or smoke emitter.  This is the best way to see where you need to add to replace caulking and weather-stripping.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades

The second category of energy conservation measure involves upgrades to your existing home energy equipment. This includes everything from installing high efficiency heating and cooling equipment to increasing your attic insulation.  While these measures can be expensive, spring is a great season to consider them.  Heating and cooling technicians tend to be less busy in the spring than in the peak months.  Combine that with a tax refund check and you can make some upgrades without breaking the bank.

Behavioral Changes

The final category involves changing our behavior as energy consumers. However, if changing human behavior were easy, we would all be gym rats chugging down protein shakes.  The challenge here is getting into the habit of doing things a little better when it comes to energy conservation.  This includes everything from turning off lights and ceiling fans in unoccupied rooms to saving energy when cooking your meals.  Check out the infographic for additional hacks and enjoy energy savings in the coming months.
